Velcrypt pricing

Updated

Velcrypt is designed so that the core promise — your private files encrypted on your own iPhone — is the same for everyone. Paying would add room and convenience, not a better lock.

Free and Premium

Velcrypt will be available as a free version with an optional Premium upgrade. We haven’t set Premium prices yet, and we’d rather say that plainly than guess. When pricing is decided, it will appear on this page first.

What every version includes

Security is not a paid tier. Every vault, free or Premium, uses the same design described on the security model page: keys derived from your pattern with PBKDF2, a random master key per vault, and AES-256-GCM encryption through Apple CryptoKit. The hidden vaults behaviour — where any new pattern opens its own empty vault — works the same way too.

There is also no account in any version. You don’t sign up, you don’t give an email address, and nothing you store leaves your iPhone.

Why Premium, not ads

A privacy app that earns money from advertising or data has a conflict of interest built into it. Velcrypt avoids that by asking the people who want more from the app to pay for it directly, once pricing is set. Everyone else keeps a fully encrypted free version with no strings attached.

That model also shapes what goes into Premium. Paid features add capacity — more items, more vaults — or new capabilities that take real work to build safely, like the duress pattern and an encrypted backup. They never unlock a “real” level of encryption that the free version lacks.

If Premium is introduced while you are using the free version, nothing about your existing vaults changes. Your data stays on your iPhone, encrypted the same way, whether or not you upgrade.

Our promise

  • No ads. Velcrypt does not show advertising, now or in Premium.
  • No selling data. Velcrypt doesn’t collect your vault content or analytics about it, so there is nothing to sell. See the privacy policy.
  • No surprises. Prices will be shown in the App Store before you pay, and purchases go through Apple.

Frequently asked questions

Is Velcrypt free?

Yes, there is a free version of Velcrypt. An optional Premium upgrade is planned for people who want more, and its pricing will be announced.

How much does Velcrypt Premium cost?

Premium pricing has not been decided yet. We will publish it on this page before it becomes available.

Does the free version of Velcrypt have ads?

No. Velcrypt has no ads in any version and does not collect analytics on what you store, so there is nothing to sell or target.

Does the free version use the same encryption as Premium?

Yes. Every vault uses the same encryption — AES-256-GCM with keys derived from your pattern — whether or not you upgrade. Premium adds capacity and features, not stronger security.

How are Velcrypt purchases handled?

Through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment, and Velcrypt never receives your card or payment details.
